Snow bunnies
It's official.
Jen and I will be in Vail this December. Neither of us has ever skiied, so it should be pretty amusing to scream my way down the slow side of a bunny hill.
We'll be there for 6 days, but only plan on "skiing" for 2. This is in anticipation of sightseeing, hangovers, shopping, hot tubbing, and physical recovery from such.
By the time we hit Taho

I anticipate significant amounts of peppermint patties and hot applie ciders in my future :)
Vail is awesome. My recommendation: enroll in ski school. Seriously.
I've only downhill skied once in my life (it was at Vail; never mind that my parents took us on FOUR cross-country ski vacations in Colorado beforehand) and I took two days of ski school prior to hitting the slope on my own. It made a HUGE difference, especially taking the second day. The adult classes are pretty lighthearted - nobody laughs when you fall down - and you'll have a much, much better time afterward. They don't delve too heavily into techniques beyond the wedge (which you'll use a LOT). I was surprised how much I liked the classes.
I may even do a half-day or full-day ski school refresher in Tahoe, just to make sure I'm up to snuff.
Speaking of which, could the bride or groom send me the names of some single invitees who might want to share a room with me?
Roxor. I agree with James, definitely do ski school. At least 2 days, more if your muscles can take it. I took 3 days my first time, and came away with what I think is a pretty solid foundation. After that it's mostly just practice. Incidentally, Northstar-at-Tahoe has an excellent ski school and lots of good intermediate runs.
Jamie: I'll send you a list.
